MALTA’S FASHION LEGACY HIGHLIGHTED THROUGH 1975 RUNWAY SHOW

As Malta celebrates the ongoing Malta Fashion Week, the Department of Information has looked back at the country’s fashion heritage by sharing images from a local fashion show held nearly five decades ago.
The DOI highlighted the historical significance of fashion, describing it as more than just clothing, but as a form of expression that reflects personality, culture, creativity, and social change.
“Fashion is more than just clothing, it’s a way to express personality, culture, and confidence. It reflects creativity, history, and even social change. What we wear can inspire, empower, and tell our story without saying a word,” the department said.
The images showcased the International Women’s Year Fashion Show 1975, an event held in Malta that celebrated fashion through an elegant runway presentation featuring models showcasing a variety of stylish designs.
The throwback offers a glimpse into Malta’s evolving fashion scene and highlights how the island has long embraced fashion as a platform for creativity, identity, and cultural expression.
With Malta Fashion Week continuing to bring together local and international designers, the retrospective serves as a reminder of the foundations and traditions that have shaped the country’s fashion industry over the years.
