Malta’s Debt Below 50% Says Finance Minister As He Launches New Series

Finance Minister Clyde Caruana launched The White Board Series, explaining economic and financial matters in a visually engaging manner on his social media.

The first episode concerned the debt of the country, with the Finance Minister stating that the debt of Malta in recent years, despite various international challenges, dropped to 50% and below.

He said that this contrasts to previous years under a Nationalist Party government, when debt reached over 60% for 15 years.

Caruana also explained that given that deficit is only expected to decrease, economic forecasts indicate that Malta’s debt will still decrease despite these same challenges and drop below 40%.

This, he said, will return Malta’s debt back to what it was during the 90’s.
