Malta’s Days Are Getting Shorter & You Probably Already Noticed

If it feels like the sun is disappearing a little earlier every evening, you’re not imagining it.
Malta’s days are now getting noticeably shorter as we move out of summer and deeper into autumn.
Those long evenings where the sun stayed out well past 8pm are already behind us, with sunset now creeping earlier day by day.
On Sunday 25 October 2026, Malta will switch back to winter time. At 3am, clocks will go back one hour to 2am, marking the end of daylight saving time.
That means sunrise and sunset will suddenly happen around one hour earlier than the day before, so evenings will start feeling much darker, much faster.
The good news? You get an extra hour in bed that Sunday morning.
The bad news? Those after-work sunsets are about to become a distant memory.
Malta will then continue heading towards the shortest days of the year in December, before daylight slowly starts increasing again.
So while the temperatures might still be saying summer, the sunlight definitely isn’t.
Have you already started noticing the earlier sunsets?
