Malta Renews Agricultural Partnership With CIHEAM Bari

Malta has signed a new agreement with CIHEAM Bari to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, building on five years of collaboration that have supported farmer training, technical assistance and sustainable agricultural development.
The agreement was signed by Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo and CIHEAM Bari Director Biagio Di Terlizzi, extending the strategic partnership between the two entities.
Over the past five years, the collaboration has provided training programmes, specialised courses and opportunities for Maltese agricultural sector workers to receive training in Italy. It has also offered technical assistance and strategic support in areas considered important for the development of Malta’s agricultural sector.
The renewed agreement will allow Malta to continue benefiting from CIHEAM Bari’s international networks, scientific expertise and developments in agricultural technology, while creating further opportunities for knowledge exchange and research dissemination.
Refalo said the agreement represents a long-term investment in the sector’s professional capacity and competitiveness, particularly as agriculture faces challenges linked to climate change, natural resource management and the need for continued innovation.
He added that the growing partnership reflects the mutual trust between the two entities and their shared commitment to developing a more innovative, sustainable and resilient agricultural sector in Malta.
