European Commission has published the latest edition of the eGovernment Benchmark, confirming that Malta has once again ranked first in Europe in the field of online government services.

The country achieved a score of 99.4 in the provision of online services, ranking first overall, with a perfect score of 100 for services offered to businesses and a score of 99.1 for services intended for citizens.

The Head of the Public Service, Tony Sultana, stated that these results confirm that the Maltese Public Service continues to deliver high-quality digital services that make a tangible difference in people’s daily lives. He emphasised that sustained investment in digital transformation is yielding concrete results and continues to strengthen the efficiency and accessibility of public services.

Reflecting on the results, Mr Sultana stated that "these results are further confirmation that our vision – Improving people’s lives every day – is being delivered in practice, every day and at all times.”

The eGovernment Benchmark report assessed 96 digital services in each country through a mystery shopping exercise and analysed more than 14,000 government websites across Europe.

Malta achieved results that exceeded the European average by approximately 11% in digital services for businesses and by 14% in general services for citizens.

The country also obtained a maximum score of 100 in the areas of user support, transparency, and mobile-friendliness—results which translate into advantages of 10, 30, and 3 points respectively over the European average.

Malta also recorded excellent results in indicators related to the Single Digital Gateway, including a perfect score in the Cross-Border ePayments category, which measures the ease of electronic payments between European Union Member States.
