“Malta, Reiterates Support For Ukraine’s Sovereignty And Territorial Integrity,” Says PM Robert Abela

Prime Minister Robert Abela has reiterated Malta’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity during the Sixth Summit of the International Crimea Platform in New York.

Speaking at the summit, held during the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly, Abela said Malta continues to condemn Russia’s occupation of Crimea and stressed that actions against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states go against the principles of the United Nations Charter.

The Prime Minister also addressed the situation of people living in occupied territories, with particular focus on the transfer and deportation of Ukrainian children.

He said that children who have been unlawfully taken must be returned, while those responsible for violations of international law must be held accountable.

“Justice for victims and accountability for those who violate international law are essential to building lasting peace,” Abela said.

He also reaffirmed Malta’s support for international courts, tribunals and accountability mechanisms, arguing that lasting peace must be based on the UN Charter and respect for states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.
