Malta Ranks Second In EU For Making Calls On WhatsApp, Messenger And Other Apps

Malta has ranked second in the European Union for making phone and video calls over the internet, according to a new Eurostat report.
In 2025, 90.1% of people aged 16 to 74 in Malta used the internet to make calls, just behind Cyprus at 90.4%. The EU average was much lower, at 75.7%.
This includes everyday activities like calling your friends or family through WhatsApp, Messenger, FaceTime and other similar apps.
Even more impressively, Malta recorded the biggest increase in the EU between 2020 and 2025, with the percentage of people making calls online rising by 27.3 percentage points.
The positive news doesn't stop there!
Separate Eurostat figures show that 97.7% of households in Malta had internet access in 2025, compared with the EU average of 94.7%.
This means Malta is not only one of the top countries for making calls online, but also one of the EU countries where internet access at home is most common.
The figures show how much technology has become part of everyday life in Malta, helping people stay connected with family and friends, whether they're across the street or on the other side of the world.
