Malta has ranked among the top-performing countries in the European Union for digital skills among young people, according to newly published 2025 data.

The figures show that 91.5% of young people aged between 16 and 24 in Malta possess at least basic digital skills, placing the country third in the EU. Only Denmark (92.1%) and Czechia (91.7%) recorded higher percentages.

Across the European Union, the average stood at 74.6%, highlighting Malta's strong performance in equipping young people with essential digital competencies.

The data also revealed a slight gender difference in Malta. Young men recorded a higher level of at least basic digital skills than young women, with 93.6% of males compared to 89.1% of females meeting the benchmark—a gap of 4.6 percentage points. Malta was one of only five EU countries where young men outperformed young women in this category.

At EU level, however, the trend was the opposite, with young women slightly more likely than young men to possess at least basic digital skills.

The latest figures further reinforce Malta's position as one of Europe's leading countries in digital literacy among young people, reflecting the growing importance of digital education and skills in everyday life.
