Malta Projected To Have Second Highest Average Age In Europe By 2100

A recent study by Eurostat has projected that Malta will have the second highest median age in Europe by the year 2100, reflecting a significant demographic shift over the coming decades.
According to the projections, Malta's median age is expected to rise from 40.2 years today to 55.1 years by the end of the century, highlighting the country's steadily ageing population.
The findings suggest that Malta will move from being among Europe's youngest nations in terms of median age to becoming one of its oldest. The only country projected to record a higher median age than Malta by 2100 is Lithuania, with a projected median age of 55.8 years.
At present, Malta remains one of the younger countries in Europe, with only Luxembourg, Ireland and Iceland recording lower median ages. However, the long-term projections indicate that Malta's population will age considerably in the decades ahead, underlining the demographic challenges associated with an ageing society.
