Malta Police Union Welcomes Improved Retention Incentives For Officers
Local

The Malta Police Union has welcomed newly announced improvements to incentives aimed at encouraging police officers to remain in the Force.

Under the revised measures, officers who serve for an additional four years will see their pension increase from 23% to 29%. Those who continue serving beyond this period will also be eligible for an annual lump-sum payment for up to six years, extending the previous four-year limit.

The Union said the changes offer greater recognition and incentives for officers who choose to continue their service.

However, it noted that it had proposed a gradual increase in pension benefits throughout the first four additional years, with the percentage rising annually to make the scheme more attractive.

The Union also called for stronger safeguards to protect pension entitlements once officers complete 25 years of service.

The statement comes as the Union continues to advocate for improved conditions and long-term benefits for members of the Force.
