Malta Police Force Encourages The Public To Speak Out If They Suspect Human Trafficking

The Malta Police Force took to social media to encourage members of the public to speak up if they suspect human trafficking.

Human trafficking occurs when a person is entrapped, transported, or harboured against their will for the purpose of exploitation and profit.

Survivors of this crime experience great hardships and often need specialised support to rebuild their lives, explains Malta’s Human Rights Directorate.

The Malta Police Force stated that “silence helps traffickers” as “traffickers rely on fear, control, and coercion to maintain their operation.”

They assured the public that to make a report, one does not require certainty, but “reasonable concern” is more than enough.

This reminder makes part of the Bee Heart Campaign, a global UN initiative aimed at raising awareness on human trafficking.

If you suspect something, report it immediately.

“Speaking up can break the cycle of control and may ultimately save a life,” they concluded.
