Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Launches 2026/27 Symphonic Season

The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) has unveiled its 2026/2027 Symphonic Season, presenting an ambitious programme that combines celebrated orchestral works, internationally renowned conductors and soloists, while continuing to promote Maltese music.

The new season builds on the Orchestra's artistic development in recent years and reinforces its commitment to artistic excellence, international collaboration and audience growth.

One of the season's main highlights is Beethoven200, a special series marking the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's death.

Conducted by Wolfram Christ, the series will feature a selection of the composer's masterpieces alongside internationally acclaimed soloists Freddy Kempf, Martina Meola, Pietro De Maria and Nikola Meeuwsen. The celebrations will conclude with a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Gozo.

The programme also includes works by some of the world's greatest composers, including Bruckner, Mahler, Shostakovich, Britten, Prokofiev, Mozart, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Sibelius, Ravel, Strauss and Schubert. Alongside these classical works, the MPO will continue to champion Maltese composers and strengthen collaborations with local cultural organisations.

Minister for the Arts, Culture and National Heritage Malcolm Paul Agius Galea said the Orchestra plays an important role beyond artistic performance, bringing people together through music and making culture more accessible to the public while strengthening Malta's international cultural profile.

Malta Philharmonic Orchestra Chief Executive Officer Vanessa Mangion said the new season reflects the Orchestra's continued artistic growth and commitment to excellence.

She highlighted the participation of internationally respected soloists and conductors as another step in strengthening the MPO's reputation while attracting wider audiences.

Running from September 2026 until July 2027, the season will see the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra continue to strengthen its position as Malta's National Orchestra and an ambassador for the country's cultural excellence.
