The Malta National Team are wrapping up their final preparations ahead of a decisive World Cup qualifying clash away to Lithuania, a fixture seen as one of their best opportunities to secure a win in this campaign.

The match will take place at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium in Kaunas, home of Zalgiris, the side defeated by Ħamrun Spartans during their historic run to UEFA Conference League qualification.

As part of standard procedure, the Maltese squad completed a one-hour training session at the stadium to familiarise themselves with the pitch.

Head coach Emilio De Leo told the media that recent call-ups, Auckland FC’s Jake Brimmer and AS Saint-Étienne forward Irvin Cardona, may be in line to make their debuts.

However, Malta face setbacks with midfielders Matthew Guillaumier (suspension) and Teddy Teuma (injury) both unavailable, alongside defender James Carragher.

Looking ahead, De Leo praised Lithuania’s organisation and physicality, urging his side to play intelligently: “We need to be smart to compensate for their strength and showcase our own qualities.”
