The Ministry for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme hosted the final conference for the EEA and Norway Grants 2014–2021 at Fort St Angelo in Birgu. This event brought together local and international officials, project representatives and other stakeholders to acknowledge the achievements of the programme and explore its positive impact in fields such as health, governance, youth and culture.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, Johan Vibe, attended the event. In his opening remarks, Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to making the most of international funding opportunities that can benefit communities. He thanked the donor countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, for their continued support and praised the Ministry’s Division for Funds and Programmes for its work as the national contact point and implementing body.

Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi noted that the €8 million in funding provided was not merely financial assistance, but a tool for real transformation. He highlighted how effective use of these funds helped achieve meaningful results, demonstrating vision, responsible leadership and a focus on community needs.

Ambassador Vibe expressed admiration for the passion and dedication shown throughout the programme, noting the tangible outcomes and the strong engagement of the Maltese people.

The conference showcased key projects, including initiatives aimed at reducing health inequalities, supporting domestic violence victims, regenerating the Maritime Museum in Birgu, and promoting good governance through local council training.

Permanent Secretary Jonathan Vassallo concluded by stressing the importance of applying lessons learned to future funding efforts for even greater impact.
