MALTA MARKS 84TH ANNIVERSARY OF SANTA MARIJA CONVOY WITH COMMEMORATIVE SERVICE

A commemorative service marking the 84th anniversary of Operation Pedestal, also known as the Santa Marija Convoy, was held at Pinto Wharf in Valletta’s Grand Harbour on Tuesday 11th August.

The service, organised to honour those who played a role in the historic convoy, was held under the presence of the President of Malta and attended by members of the diplomatic corps and other distinguished guests.

As part of the ceremony, wreaths were laid at sea in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the operation, which played a crucial role in keeping Malta supplied during the Second World War.

The Royal British Legion Malta GC Branch shared details of the commemoration, paying tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the fight for freedom.

Operation Pedestal remains an important part of Malta’s wartime history and is remembered every year through commemorative events honouring the courage and sacrifice of those involved.

The ceremony concluded with a solemn reminder of the lives lost and the importance of preserving their memory: “Lest we forget.”
