The Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) has issued a call for tenders for the development of Malta’s European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet, marking a significant step forward in the country’s digital transformation journey and the implementation of the European Digital Identity Framework.

Through this project, Malta aims to introduce a secure and reliable digital identity solution that will allow users to access services more easily while giving them greater control over how and with whom they share their personal information.

The EUDI Wallet will enable Maltese citizens and residents to securely identify themselves online and in person, verify their age when required, store important documents such as driving licences, and use electronic signatures. The digital wallet will be designed for use both in Malta and across the European Union.

The MDIA has been entrusted with leading the implementation of Malta’s European Digital Identity Wallet and will oversee the development of the solution, along with the necessary systems to ensure secure operation and compatibility with digital identity systems used by other EU member states.

Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri said the initiative reflects Malta’s commitment to embracing innovative technologies that improve everyday experiences and strengthen the country’s position as a digitally advanced nation.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to embracing innovative technologies that improve everyday experiences and strengthen Malta’s position as a digitally advanced nation,” Schembri said.

MDIA Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Brincat described the project as a practical example of how innovative technology can be used to create services that are more secure, reliable, and focused on citizens’ needs.

The tender for the project is open through the ePPS system until Thursday, 3 September, with interested parties invited to submit their proposals.
