Malta has launched the National Physical Activity Strategy promoting Health-Enhancing Physical Activity (HEPA) 2025–2030, establishing a framework to encourage exercise at every stage of life and improve both physical and mental health.

The strategy takes a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, with sectors such as health, education, transport, environment, and urban planning working together to create environments that make physical activity part of everyday life.

Health and Active Ageing Minister Jo Etienne Abela said the strategy is a key step towards a more active, healthy, and sustainable society, placing equity and inclusion at its heart so everyone can benefit, regardless of age, ability, or background.

Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima added that education and sport will further strengthen the initiative, with daily physical education lessons in schools, the Let’s Move Malta and #BeActive programmes, and free gyms for young people. These measures aim to make exercise a natural part of life for Maltese children and families, while education continues to support a healthy, active, and inclusive society.
