Highlighting Malta’s progress, Minister Schembri stated, “Last June, according to the Digital Decade Report published by the European Commission, Malta achieved a 96% level of digital proficiency well above the European average.” He emphasised that the country is firmly on track to build a more connected, innovative, and digitally competent society.

As part of this national initiative, two new schemes were unveiled, Boost Your Coding Scheme: This programme will provide financial support of €1,000 to individuals aged 16 and over to attend basic coding courses. With a total investment of €400,000, the scheme is designed to make coding accessible to all, encouraging lifelong digital learning and Minecraft Education Challenge Malta Competition: Aimed at primary and secondary school students, this competition will allow participants to develop coding skills through collaborative projects in Minecraft Education, fostering creativity and teamwork.

Minister Schembri expressed gratitude to the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) for leading the initiative, as well as to Microsoft the publishers of Minecraft and Gaming Malta for their support.
