Malta Joins Other Countries In Opposing West Bank Settlement Tenders

Malta has joined a number of countries in opposing the Israeli Government’s decision to publish construction tenders for the E1 settlement project in the West Bank.

Prime Minister Robert Abela has signed other world-leaders in signing a Joint Leaders' Statement on the E1 Bank Settlement, which describes the project as "unacceptable."

"International law is clear that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal. This is the position of the international community reaffirmed by the United Nations Security Council," emphasises the statement.

Abela took to social media to affirm his decision in signing the Statement.

"Malta stands for peace, stability & a two-state solution," explained Prime Minister Abela, "That is why I joined international partners and supported the Joint Leaders' Statement on the E1 West bank Settlement Plan."

Robert Abela concluded by stating the Malta's position is one of "principle, dialogue, and a firm commitment to a lasting peace."

The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the European Commission, the Netherlands, Canada, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, Austria, Greece, Cyprus, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania and Denmark are the countries who opposed this settlement.
