Malta's Service Dogs Malta Foundation is set to receive a financial boost of over €150,000 to help train assistance dogs and support individuals with disabilities and other conditions.

The investment, spread over three years between 2027 and 2029, will support the training of three assistance dogs annually, helping more people enjoy greater independence in their everyday lives.

Minister for Inclusion and Voluntary Organisations Julia Farrugia recently visited a training session in Ta' Qali, where she witnessed firsthand the incredible skills these four-legged companions are learning.

Among them was Nando, who demonstrated how assistance dogs can retrieve dropped objects, while Miles practised safely navigating pavements. Another dog, Luna, is being trained to provide support during panic attacks and episodes of severe anxiety.

The initiative also highlights the dedication of trainers, volunteers and families who help prepare these dogs for their important roles.

According to Minister Farrugia, the investment represents a commitment to improving independence, security and peace of mind for individuals and their families.
