Malta International Fireworks Festival Returns For 25th Anniversary

Between 18 and 30 April, the 25th anniversary edition of the Malta International Fireworks Festival will take place across the Grand Harbour and Nadur in Gozo, bringing together around 40 fireworks teams and celebrating a long standing Maltese tradition while attracting visitors outside the summer season.
The Malta Tourism Authority announced the programme at Fort St Angelo in Birgu, confirming eight teams in the pyro musical competition, four local and four international, including a Canadian company.
Events begin on 18 April in Nadur with non competitive displays and last year’s winners performing, followed by competitive nights in Valletta on 20 and 25 April, before a grand finale on 30 April.
Across the festival, traditional fireworks such as beraq, murtali and blalen will be showcased alongside band club performances that reflect festa culture.
Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg said the event highlights Maltese heritage while supporting tourism, while Chairman of the MTA Dr Charles Mangion noted its role in promoting recognised cultural traditions.
Chief Executive Officer Carlo Micallef added that the expanded competition reflects growing international interest and supports efforts to strengthen year round tourism.
Representing the Malta Pyrotechnic Association, Stanley Azzopardi said the festival offers audiences a broad range of high quality displays from Maltese and international participants in a single programme.
The festival remains a key event in Malta’s cultural calendar, drawing large crowds to Valletta and Gozo each year and reinforcing the islands’ reputation for craftsmanship, tradition and community celebration.
