MALTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ADVISES PASSENGERS TO PLAN AHEAD AS SUMMER SCHEDULE KICKS OFF

Malta International Airport is advising passengers to allow extra time for travel in the coming months as it prepares for a surge in passenger traffic during what is expected to be its busiest summer yet.
In a statement, the airport warned that increased traffic is likely to result in longer queues and possible delays at key touchpoints, particularly on Thursdays when passenger numbers are set to peak.
Travellers heading to non-Schengen destinations are also being reminded to anticipate longer waiting times due to more extensive border control checks now in place.
Passengers may experience minor inconveniences as the airport continues to roll out its ongoing investment programme, aimed at upgrading infrastructure and improving operational efficiency.
Works are currently underway in several areas, including the airport’s main car park. A reconfiguration of the central area is expected to add around 100 parking spaces by the end of April, forming part of a wider project to enhance parking facilities and overall passenger convenience.
Inside the terminal, the Central Reconfiguration Project has already doubled the number of pre-security gates and significantly increased circulation space. Additional works include the replacement of the escalator connecting the Welcomers’ Hall to the food court on Level -1, as well as the redesign of retail spaces in the same area.
Meanwhile, demolition works are ongoing in the departures area to further expand circulation space at border control by the end of April.
While apologising for any inconvenience caused, the airport thanked the public for their understanding and urged passengers to cooperate by planning ahead. Travellers are encouraged to consider alternative transport to private cars, prepare for security checks by keeping liquids and electronics accessible, and follow airport signage and information monitors for updates.
