A video shared with Malta Daily shows hail falling across parts of Malta as the islands brace for a cold, unsettled end to November.

Chilly, wet conditions are set to usher in the start of the meteorological winter, with the Meteorological Office forecasting further isolated showers, possibly thundery and even accompanied by hail today.

According to the Met Office, the unstable conditions are being driven by a low-pressure system currently sitting over the central Mediterranean, expected to shift eastwards from tomorrow.

A weather warning is already in force, highlighting the risk of isolated showers with hail, thunder, and strong gusts of wind. This warning may be renewed through Friday as conditions remain unsettled.

Despite the recent bursts of rain, November is still slightly behind its monthly rainfall quota of 89.0 mm. The coming weekend is also expected to stay damp, with isolated showers and rather strong northwesterly winds. Winds are set to strengthen from this afternoon, reaching Force 4 to 5, persisting until Sunday morning and occasionally veering to north-northwest.

Temperatures are forecast to drop further, with daytime highs falling between 16°C and 18°C, close to the December mean maximum of 17.2°C. Overnight lows of 12°C to 13°C are expected, though the brisk northwesterly wind will likely make it feel even colder, especially after dark.

Looking into the first days of December, Monday 1st is expected to bring a brief return to partly cloudy skies, before another spell of unstable weather later in the week.
