Malta Has The Highest Rate Of Obesity In The EU

According to data issued by Eurostat, 26.6% of Maltese aged over 18 were obese in 2025.
Well above the EU average of 16.3%, this also places Malta in the top for the highest rate of obesity, meaning they had a body mass index of 30 or higher.
Malta was followed by Latvia and Finland at 24.6% and 23.2% respectively. Meanwhile, Malta’s neighbour Italy registered the lowest rate at 7%.
Greece and Romania followed with 12.8% and 12.9% respectively.
