MALTA HAS SECOND CHEAPEST FUEL PRICES IN THE EU

Malta currently has one of the lowest fuel prices in the European Union, with petrol averaging €1.34 per litre, making it the second cheapest in the bloc. The figure places Malta well below many other European countries where motorists are paying significantly more at the pump.
Across Europe, fuel prices vary widely despite countries using the same global oil supply. For example, the average petrol price in Netherlands stands at around €2.17 per litre, while in Bulgaria it is just €1.27 per litre, the lowest in the EU.
Fuel prices across the continent have risen in recent weeks as instability in the Middle East has created volatility in global oil markets. The situation highlights how quickly pump prices can fluctuate depending on international developments.
However, a large portion of the price drivers pay is not the fuel itself but taxes imposed by governments. Countries such as Germany, Denmark, and Finland apply significantly higher taxes on each litre of petrol, pushing their prices toward the top of the European rankings.
