Malta has been confirmed as the European leader in LGBTIQ+ rights for a historic 10th consecutive year, according to the 2025 Rainbow Map by ILGA-Europe. The country has consistently led in equality, non-discrimination, and legal gender recognition, standing out for its inclusive policies and advancements.

In recent developments, Malta’s government announced plans to restore a building in Valletta, turning it into a community centre for LGBTI individuals and their families.

Additionally, psycho-social services for LGBTI individuals were launched in Paola, with plans to move to the new centre once renovations are completed.

The government also introduced free HIV testing in Valletta, Gozo, and Paola, addressing crucial public health needs. In education, a Eurobarometer survey revealed overwhelming support for including LGBTI topics in school curricula, with 77% of Maltese respondents backing the inclusion of LGBTI identities in lessons.

Parliamentary Secretary for Equality, Rebecca Buttigieg, celebrated Malta’s continued top ranking, stressing the government’s commitment to human rights and equality. She emphasized that this achievement highlights Malta’s determination to maintain high standards and ensure the rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals are protected both locally and internationally.
