Malta Had Over 340,000 Employed Persons in 2025

Malta recorded 340,463 total employed persons in 2025, an increase of 4.9 per cent compared with the previous year.
The figures, which measure employment by both place of residence and place of work, also show a significant number of people commuting between Malta and Gozo. A total of 5,511 people living in Gozo and Comino worked in the Malta region, meaning 1 in every 5 people that lived in Gozo and Comino was working in Malta.
Full-time employment among Malta residents increased by 4.7 per cent to 283,472, while full-time employment among Gozo and Comino residents rose by 5.7 per cent to 20,754.
The largest share of employed people in Malta worked in wholesale and retail trade, transportation and storage, and accommodation and food services, which accounted for 26.1 per cent of employment. Public administration, defence, education, human health and social work activities accounted for a further 20.5 per cent. Among residents of Gozo and Comino, public administration, education, health and social work represented the largest employment sector, accounting for 29.7 per cent.
