Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from around the world are currently gathering in Siem Reap for the 39th World Conference of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), taking place from 16 to 19 June 2026.

The Malta Girl Guides (MGG) are being represented by Chief Commissioner Rachel Aquilina, International Commissioner Chantelle Galea, and Deputy Chief Commissioner Elaine Attard.

They are taking part in key discussions and decision-making sessions that will help shape the future direction of the global movement, with a strong focus on leadership, inclusion and sustainability.

Their participation reinforces Malta’s commitment to empowering girls and young women both locally and internationally.

Held every three years, the WAGGGS World Conference is the organisation’s highest decision-making forum, bringing together delegates, young leaders, volunteers and partners from across the world.

This year’s theme, “We See, We Care, We Act”, reflects a shared commitment to empowering young women and strengthening collective action for positive global change.

Hosted by the Girl Guides Association of Cambodia, the Conference provides a platform for exchanging ideas, setting strategic priorities and exploring how the movement can adapt in a rapidly changing world.

Hybrid participation has allowed for broader engagement and more diverse voices.

During the opening ceremony, Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet emphasised the importance of youth leadership and international cooperation.

First Lady Pich Chanmony also welcomed delegates, highlighting the value of friendship, cultural exchange and collaboration.

Running alongside the Conference is the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Olave Baden-Powell Society, further strengthening global partnerships. MGG, a WAGGGS member since 1972, continues to support girls’ development through leadership, skills and community engagement worldwide.
