The Ministry is also in advanced discussions with the University Students’ Council (KSU) to provide additional carpooling spaces across campus car parks, following the initiative’s success and high demand in previous years.

During a visit to Freshers’ Week at the University, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett said the initiative, alongside other projects under the Reshaping Our Mobility plan, continues to promote alternative and more sustainable transport options among young people. He stated,

“We are offering concrete and effective solutions to students. This initiative not only reduces the number of cars on our roads but also encourages young people to consider more sustainable mobility.”In addition to the new carpooling spaces, free Tallinja Cards were offered to students this week to encourage the use of public transport, and a new direct Park & Ride service from Ta’ Qali to the University has also been launched.

Jan Proschek, Vice President for Internal Affairs of the KSU, said, “The carpooling initiative began at the KSU over 10 years ago, aiming to encourage sustainable transport. This year, in collaboration with the Ministry for Transport, the number of spaces dedicated to carpooling will increase significantly, following months of discussions that led to this agreement.”

Students can book their carpool parking spaces up to five days in advance via the myKSU mobile app, providing a simple and efficient solution.
