Childcare Centres Providers Association along with the Malta Chamber of SMEs have hit back to Gozo Bishop’s remarks in a statement.

CCPA and the Malta Chamber of SMEs reaffirmed that childcare centres are essential in children's upbringing.

Access to childcare contributes to "supporting working parents and contributing to a child's early development," they stated in their statement.

CCPA and the Chamber reaffirmed that centres are led by "professionals and qualified carers".

They also claimed that childcare institutions are "centred around family values, and carried out with dedication and passion."

These comments come after the Gozo Bishop, Anton Teuma, expressed concern that if a baby becomes an ‘object’ because parents have too much to do, then it’s easy for them to place them in childcare.

During his homily, he continued by explaining that when a child is seen as an object, and financial gain takes precedent, the baby becomes an object less important than a bedroom they seek to renovate, ending up in childcare.
