During the parliamentary debate on Budget 2026 measures, Nationalist Partyand Opposition Leader Alex Borg presented his vision for ‘Malta ‘l Quddiem,’ emphasising the link between economic growth and quality of life.

Borg argued that current economic progress has not translated into tangible improvements for families, workers, young people, and the elderly.

He highlighted issues such as long hours spent in traffic, rising costs of living, and pressure to work longer, describing these challenges as part of everyday life rather than abstract statistics.

The Opposition Leader criticised Malta’s current economic model, stating

it demands much from citizens while offering little in return, leading to increased mental strain and reduced quality of life.

He stressed that while implementing the budget remains the Government’s responsibility, the Opposition also has a role in proposing solutions.

Borg outlined five key priorities: improving work quality and wages, providing effective support against the cost of living, creating a housing policy that works for families, reforming education to equip future generations, and ensuring a healthcare system that centres on patient needs, including mental health services.

He concluded by calling for politics built on justice, dignity, and future prospects, asserting that Malta can do better and that its citizens deserve policies that deliver real results.
