Malta Bids Tearful Farewell To Former Enemalta CEO Jonathan Cardona

Tributes have begun pouring in following the death of former Enemalta CEO Jonathan Cardona, with Prime Minister Robert Abela and Enemalta among those expressing their condolences.
In a statement shared on social media, Enemalta paid tribute to Cardona, who served as Chief Executive Officer of the company between 2021 and 2023. The company thanked him for his contribution and dedication during his tenure, while extending its sympathies to his family and loved ones.
Prime Minister Robert Abela also described the news as one of profound sorrow, revealing that confirmation of Cardona’s passing came during the ceremony marking the appointment of Malta’s new Cabinet.
While those closest to Cardona were aware of the health challenges he had been facing in recent months, his death still came as a shock to many.
Abela recalled Cardona’s important role behind the scenes in helping the Labour Party earn the trust of the Maltese people in 2013, before going on to serve the country in a number of leadership positions within key government entities.
The Prime Minister described him as a professional, loyal and committed individual who approached every responsibility with dedication. He also remembered Cardona for his positive attitude, warm smile and boundless energy.
Condolences continue to be shared with Cardona’s family and friends during this difficult time.
