Rebecca Buttigieg represented Malta at the European Conference Against Racism 2026 in Brussels, where European leaders gathered to launch the EU’s Anti-Racism Strategy for 2026–2030.

The conference, co-organised by the European Commission and the Council of the European Union Presidency, brought together policymakers, civil society and international organisations to strengthen Europe’s collective response to racism.

Buttigieg took part in a high-level discussion on coordinated anti-racism action, highlighting the importance of aligning global and local strategies.

She outlined Malta’s progress through its National Action Plan Against Racism, pointing to improvements in policymaking, data use and the integration of anti-racism principles across public services, including policing, education and community engagement.

She stressed that effective implementation depends on whole-of-government coordination and ongoing consultation with affected communities.

Reaffirming Malta’s commitment, Buttigieg said the country will continue to actively engage in EU expert groups and international platforms, underlining that collaboration and shared knowledge remain key to tackling racism across Europe.
