Minister for Sustainable Mobility Chris Bonett announced that in the past months, Maltese authorities were working tirelessly to help over 16,000 individuals caught aboard 70 vessels flying the Maltese flag during the US-Iran conflict.

‘Few were aware of the work being carried out quietly by a number of Maltese workers’, said Bonett.

‘More than 16,000 people aboard 70 vessels flying the Maltese flag found themselves in the middle of one of the biggest crises of recent years. Work began immediately to protect the lives of thousands of people on board ships registered under Malta’s flag.’

‘Despite its size, Malta acted with seriousness and responsibility, values reflected in the reputation of Malta’s maritime sector.’

Over 8,000 passengers were evacuated from the zone in the first week of the conflict, said Bonett. Two of the vehicles were directly hit, said the Minister, whereas another was collaterally damaged.

This reminds us why liberty of navigation and maritime security should never be taken for granted. And neither is the positive rapport Malta has in this sector.Malta Assists Over 16K Passengers Aboard Malta Flagged Vessels Caught In US-Iran Conflict
