Malta Airport Advises Passengers To ‘Plan Ahead’ As Summer Scheduled Begins

Malta International Airport is advising passengers to allow extra time when travelling over the coming months, as increased passenger traffic is expected to lead to longer queues and potential delays at key checkpoints.
The airport is preparing for its busiest summer period, with passenger flows expected to peak on Thursdays.
Travellers heading to non Schengen destinations are reminded that enhanced border control checks are in place, which may result in longer waiting times.
Passengers may also experience minor disruption as Malta International Airport continues its ongoing investment programme aimed at upgrading infrastructure and improving operational efficiency across the terminal.
Work is currently underway in the main car park, where a reconfiguration of the central area is expected to add around 100 additional parking spaces by the end of April. This forms part of a wider project designed to improve parking capacity and overall passenger convenience.
Inside the terminal, the Central Reconfiguration Project has already doubled the number of pre security gates and increased circulation space significantly.
Further works are ongoing, including the replacement of the escalator connecting the Welcomers’ Hall to the Level -1 food court, as well as the reconfiguration of nearby retail areas. Demolition works in the departures area are also being carried out to expand circulation space at border control.
While apologising for any inconvenience caused, Malta International Airport thanks passengers for their understanding and cooperation.
Travellers are encouraged to use alternative transport where possible, keep liquids and electronics in hand luggage, and ensure items such as jackets and belts are removed during security screening.
Shoes may remain on. Passengers are also advised to monitor gate information screens and follow airport signage for directions and facilities.
