Major International Search And Rescue Exercise Held In Malta

Malta played host to NovEx ’25, a large-scale international Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) exercise that brought together elite teams from Norway, Poland, Sweden, Germany, and Malta.

The operation aimed to strengthen cross-border collaboration in disaster response and emergency preparedness.

Maltese participation included the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM), the Civil Protection Department, the Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit (EFRU), St. John Ambulance & Rescue, and several local NGOs.

Over several days, participants tackled complex rescue scenarios designed to test coordination, search and extraction operations, medical response, and K9 capabilities under demanding and realistic conditions.

The AFM contributed personnel from its Medical Section, Air Wing, and Special Operations Unit (SOU), reflecting the country’s multi-agency commitment to improving readiness and interoperability with international partners.
