Major Clean-Up Underway At Manoel Island As Government Prepares Public Park

Manoel Island is getting a major clean-up as preparations continue to transform the island into a public space for everyone to enjoy.
Prime Minister Robert Abela announced during his reaction to Budget 2027 that an extensive cleaning operation has already begun on the island, with the aim of making it cleaner, safer and more accessible to the public.
The works will focus on improving access throughout the area, including along the coastline, allowing visitors to enjoy the island's natural surroundings in a better environment.
Speaking about the project, Abela said the Government had protected Manoel Island from development and secured its future for public use.
“Ħaddieħor hemm ried jibni kullimkien u aħna salvajna gżira favur in-nies,” the Prime Minister stated.
The announcement follows the historic agreement reached in May 2026, which saw Manoel Island officially returned to public ownership following years of debate over its future.
The agreement came after significant public pressure, including a petition signed by more than 29,000 people calling for the island to become a public park.
The latest cleaning initiative represents another step towards making Manoel Island a more welcoming recreational destination for families, walkers and anyone looking to enjoy outdoor space by the sea.
While the Prime Minister confirmed that cleaning works are already underway, no specific completion date was announced.
