Last night marked a significant milestone for Malta’s cultural and fashion landscape, as designs by Azzopardi Studio were officially welcomed into the national costume collection, curated and preserved by Heritage Malta.

The event celebrated the enduring connection between heritage and contemporary design. During the evening, Luke Azzopardi Studio made a notable contribution by donating a bespoke gown to be permanently included in the national collection a gesture that honours both tradition and future generations of Maltese cultural appreciation.

Reflecting on the occasion, Luke Azzopardi remarked, “I’ve learned that referencing the past isn’t just about nostalgia. It is about making sure our stories aren’t transient, but living, breathing parts of Malta’s cultural DNA. Gowns in vaults, guarded by vault-keepers, don’t just sit quietly. They safeguard our future.”

Now under the care of Heritage Malta, the pieces are preserved in the ethnography vaults, joining a curated collection of national textile heritage.

Luke Azzopardi Studio is renowned for its focus on timeless elegance, rooted in the designer’s academic background in costume history. His approach combining powerful visual storytelling, rigorous research, and artisanal craftsmanship has firmly established him as one of Malta’s leading fashion artists.
