Local

Lucas Micallef shared his thoughts regarding the chaos caused by the fireworks factory explosion, which left many people speaking about the future of fireworks in Malta.

Micallef remarked that he "read many comments about what happened on Monday morning at a fireworks factory in Malta," which led to many people "rushing to pass judgment or point fingers before all the facts are known."

While he expressed his sadness for all the animals who lost their lives during the incident, he said that "we must be careful not to let emotion take the place of reason."

Micallef expressed that "hearing calls for fireworks to be banned altogether is a serious concern," urging those who are calling for such a decision to refrain from "generalizing and condemning an entire community of enthusiasts, volunteers, and individuals who, for generations, have contributed to keeping a unique Maltese tradition alive."

He said in the case of negligence, those responsible should take accountability, "but we do not punish everyone for the mistakes of a few."

Micallef urged the Maltese people to be open to dialogue, to understand what happened, and how it could have been avoided, "so that incidents like this do not happen again."
