Lorella Castillo To Launch First Exhibition ‘Fil-Friġġ Wara T-Tadam’
Local

Fil-Friġġ wara t-Tadam marks the first solo exhibition by Lorella Castillo, running from Thursday 22 January to Sunday 8 March 2026.

Through playful photography and small sculptural constructions, Castillo translates everyday Maltese sayings into visual and tactile scenes.

The images draw attention to what is preserved, what is put on display, and what quietly decays beneath the surface of local speech.

Curated by Rachelle Bezzina, the exhibition invites visitors to laugh, pause, and recognise fragments of themselves within settings that feel familiar yet subtly estranged.

Language appears both as an archive of memory and as a contested space, revealing resilience, absurdity, and contradiction within Maltese cultural memory today.

Two satellite events expand the project. On Wednesday 4 February at 19:00, a technical session led by Castillo and master printer Ramon Sammut explores photographic construction, from concept and staging to lighting, post production, and fine art printing.

On Thursday 5 March at 19:00, Castillo and Bezzina discuss the conceptual framework of the work, examining surrealism, symbolism, and personal narrative.

Will you be there?
