Local Wildlife Uses Water Stations When No One Is Watching

Nature Trust volunteers regularly visit the designated Water for Wildlife stations to check, clean and refill the water bowls.

Most of the time, they do not get a glimpse at the animals that use them. But now they do as several trail cameras have been installed at selected water stations.

‘And apparently, the locals have found them’, the organisation said. ‘Hedgehogs stop by during their nightly wanderings, birds visit during the day, and some particularly curious guests like to get very closely acquainted with the camera.’

‘During Malta’s long, hot and dry summers, reliable sources of fresh water can be incredibly important for wildlife. These stations provide animals with somewhere safe to stop, drink and continue on their way.’

‘A big thank you to the volunteers that have been refilling our water bowls all summer, especially during these heatwaves!’
