Local Shares Photo Of Food Prices In Malta Between 1971 & 1981

Local Sean Mizzi shared a photo to local Facebook page Malta Lura Fil-Passat showing food price increases between June of 1971 and November of 1981.

The table shows the prices of everything from a kilo of sugar to a kilo of cheddar cheese jumping prices across the ten year time span.

‘The following are a few products that the house wife buys often’, the table explains.

Bread jumped from 2c to 10c5, with the 5 referring to the mills system, wherein 1 Lira was split into 1,000 mills.

This was a decimal system introduced in the 1970s, with the table showcasing the system at work.
