A user in local Facebook group Nostalgia Malta shared an old photo of a VW Beatle near Hompesch back in 1971, in what is now a considerably busy road.
User ‘MaltaOldDays’ shared the photo of the vehicle from before they were born, with their mother informing them that there was only the Beatle, which belonged to the user’s father, and another car on the main road.
Hompesch refers to Ħaż-Żabbar’s old name of Ċitta Hompesch, a title granted to it by the last of the Grand Masters of the Order of St John to reign in Malta, Ferdinand von Hompesch zu Bolheim.
