Local Photographer Marika Caruana Captures Stunning Almost Full Moon Photo

Local photographer Marika Caruana has captured a series of striking images of this week’s almost full moon as it rose in the skyline of Siġġiewi.
Taken from a vantage point opposite the historic St Nicholas Church, the photographs show the moon looming large and glowing in deep red and amber hues, a visual effect often caused by atmospheric conditions when the moon is low on the horizon.
This phenomenon, sometimes referred to as a “harvest moon effect,” can make the lunar disc appear bigger and more intensely coloured than usual.
Sharing the images on social media, Marika described the moment as “surreal beauty,” noting how the alignment between the moon and the church created a rare and perfectly timed composition.
The coming days are expected to offer more opportunities for skywatchers across Malta to enjoy similar views. As the moon reaches its full phase, it will rise shortly after sunset, appearing especially large and luminous in the early evening.
