Local Parks Spotlight: Ġnien Il-Palma, Ħ’Attard

Ġnien il-Palma in Attard has been upgraded as part of the Greening Urban Areas initiative launched by Ambjent Malta.
The programme encourages local councils in Malta and Gozo to introduce green infrastructure into urban areas in order to improve the wellbeing of communities.

The project focuses on improving the garden’s environment through landscaping, sustainable infrastructure and new facilities for residents. Invasive plant species were removed and replaced with indigenous Maltese plants and trees that are better suited to the local climate.
These changes aim to strengthen biodiversity while creating a more attractive public space.
The garden has also been redesigned to encourage sustainable mobility. A new cycling infrastructure has been introduced to promote bicycle use among both adults and children.
This supports efforts to reduce air pollution and encourage healthier forms of transport within the locality.
Additional upgrades include new urban furniture made from environmentally friendly and recyclable materials.

The lighting system has been replaced with energy efficient LED lights to reduce energy consumption. The playground area has also been improved with new equipment and mat flooring to provide a safer and more engaging space for children.
Located close to Attard Primary School, the garden is an important meeting place for students and families. The project aims to provide a welcoming green space while promoting environmental awareness and sustainable urban development.
