Local Parks Spotlight: Ġnien Hibiscus, San Ġwann

Ġnien Hibiscus in San Ġwann has been developed as a model for future urban green spaces across Malta.

Spanning 200 square metres, the garden features benches, trees, a pond and a selection of aromatic herbs that enhance both the environment and visitor experience.

The plants were carefully chosen for their suitability to the Maltese climate, ensuring they can thrive with minimal maintenance.

A key feature of the garden is its sustainable irrigation system, which uses collected rainwater to automatically water plants efficiently without waste.

This approach supports long term environmental sustainability while maintaining the health of the garden.

The project reflects a wider effort to transform unused urban areas into accessible green spaces, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy nature within their own locality.
