Local Elderly Design Malta’s Official Christmas Cards

A heart-warming initiative is bringing festive cheer and creativity to Malta’s elderly community as members from Active Ageing Centres across the islands were invited to design the official Christmas cards for 2025. The project, lovingly titled “Minn Qalb l-Anzjani” (From the Hearts of the Elderly), was launched by Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC) to celebrate the artistic talent, imagination, and joy that remain ever-present among older adults.

Elderly participants were encouraged to let their creativity shine, submitting original artwork to be transformed into Christmas and New Year cards that will be shared across various departments, including with the senior members themselves.
The response was touching and enthusiastic: 68 unique designs were submitted from 18 different centres, each one reflecting warmth, festive spirit, and personal expression. With such a high standard and so many beautiful ideas, the selection board had the difficult task of choosing the top ten. These winning designs were then professionally printed, proudly displaying the name of the artist and their centre.

The results were announced during a wholesome activity held at the Siġġiewi Active Ageing Centre, attended by the Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, and Permanent Secretary Renzo De Gabriele. All submitted artworks were put on display, creating a colourful and touching exhibition of community spirit.
Parliamentary Secretary Agius Galea highlighted how “Minn Qalb l-Anzjani” showcases not only the creative abilities of older adults but also the meaningful value of providing them with spaces for expression. Initiatives like this, he explained, do more than brighten up the festive season, they enrich lives and strengthen the sense of belonging.

Following the success of this year’s competition, AACC is already considering similar editions throughout the year, including an Easter-themed version, ensuring that the creativity of Malta’s elderly community continues to shine and inspire.
