Local Councils To Host Animal First Aid Courses For Residents From October

The Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government, together with the Parliamentary Secretariat for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights, has launched an expression of interest for Local Councils to host Animal First Aid courses for residents within council premises.
The initiative aims to increase public awareness and basic skills in animal first aid, while promoting higher standards of animal welfare across communities.
Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli said the project originated from a proposal to provide citizens with basic training in animal first aid. She described the initiative as one that could make “a real difference” in local communities by equipping pet owners with potentially life-saving skills.
Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said said the courses would strengthen a culture of responsibility and care towards animals.
She noted that training would help owners respond safely in emergencies such as heatstroke, choking and poisoning before veterinary assistance arrives.
The courses, due to begin in October, will include practical training in CPR, wound care and emergency response for animals.
