Local Councils Encouraged To Lead Child Centred Projects

On Thursday morning the TFULIJA Quality Label was launched. The initiative, Towns and Villages For Us: Living, Inclusive, Joyful and Accountable, aims to give greater visibility and recognition to the work being carried out by local councils and other organisations.
It also encourages more councils and voluntary groups to propose projects and open spaces designed specifically for children, while prioritising children’s participation in the planning and enjoyment of public open spaces across the Maltese Islands.
The initiative seeks to promote projects that enhance localities and are planned around children’s needs. Local councils are therefore being invited to put forward concrete proposals that place children at the centre.
The Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon, said children are the heart, present and future of the country, and stressed the Government’s commitment to strengthening their rights and wellbeing. Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, said councils play a central role in community life and this initiative aligns with Malta Vision 2050.

Children’s Commissioner Antoinette Vassallo said the scheme builds on research promoting child friendly towns. Councils may apply through tfal.gov.mt, with awards at Bronze, Silver and Gold level.
