Local Councils Briefed On New Scheme For Dog Parks And Cat Cafés

An information session was held today for Local Councils following the launch of a new scheme supporting the development of dog parks and cat cafés across communities.
The meeting was addressed by Parliamentary Secretaries Alicia Bugeja Said and Alison Zerafa Civelli, who highlighted the initiative’s role in enhancing facilities for pets and their owners.
Bugeja Said noted that discussions with pet owners revealed a clear need for such spaces, stressing the importance of tailoring projects to each locality.
Zerafa Civelli added that the scheme forms part of wider efforts to improve community spaces while benefiting residents and animals alike.
Animal Welfare Director Joseph John Vella outlined application procedures, while Project Green head Francoise Chetcutiexplained funding support.
The scheme offers up to €50,000 per project, with a total investment of €750,000. Applications are open until 31 May 2026.
